Hohenurach Castle and the reign over Urach fall to Württemberg

On 1/12/1442

 

The division of the earldom of Württemberg between the brothers Ludwig and Ulrich is specified in the "Nürtinger Vertrag" (Pact of Nürtingen). Count Ludwig I raises Urach to the residence of the southern part of the earldom.

On 12/11/1445

 

Count Eberhard V, later called Eberhard im Bart, is born at Urach Palace.

Around 1470

 

The originally flat-roofed Dürnitz (Main Hall) is vaulted, marking the beginning of numerous structural alterations and expansions to the palace.

1470-1480

 

Eberhard im Bart has the "Empfangssaal" (Reception Hall) furnished as the "Palmensaal" (Hall of Palms).

On 7/4/1474

 

Count Eberhard von Württemberg and Princess Barbara Gonzaga von Mantua marry in Urach. 13,000 guests take part in the wedding.

1482

 

Eberhard succeeds in reunifying the divided earldom of Württemberg with the signing of the "Münsinger Vertrag" (Pact of Münsingen). Stuttgart becomes the sole residential city again, while Urach Palace continues to be used as a country and hunting palace

1515

 

Duchess Sabina von Württemberg gives birth to the later Duke Christoph at Urach Palace.

Around 1535

 

Duke Ulrich has the palace expanded with the southern addition.

Around 1550

 

The "Palmensaal" is converted to a "Jagdsaal" (Hunting Hall).

1610-1620

 

Duke Johann Friedrich von Württemberg and his wife Barbara Sophie have the "Goldener Saal" (Golden Hall) remodeled to a Renaissance hall.

um 1770

 

Structural alterations to the palace interior are begun under Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg.

1790

 

The old castle is torn down.

1828-1965

 

The official residences of the Deacon and Pastor of the "Amanduskirche" in Urach are located in the Palace.

1960-1968

 

The palace is completely renovated and restored due to static defects.

1966

 

The palace courtyard is redesigned.

1973-1974

 

The "Württembergisches Landesmuseum" (Württemberg State Museum) in Stuttgart prepares a photo documentation on the life and works of the first Württemberg Duke Eberhard im Bart. The permanent collection of the "Historischen Museum Schloss Urach" (Historical Museum of Urach Palace) is expanded.

1981

 

The "Württembergisches Landesmuseum" establishes an exhibition on the history of the courtly hunt on the third floor and puts its collection of weapons, armor and Renaissance furniture on display.

Seit 1988

 

Old musical instruments of the "Württembergisches Landesmuseum" are exhibited in the "Weißer Saal" (White Hall).

1999-Spring 2000

 

he palace is closed for extensive renovation work and a new exhibition concept.

February 2000

 

Urach Palace is reopened to the public. It is now home to the collection of sleighs of state of the Württemberg State Museum (Württembergisches Landesmuseum) in a new permanent exhibition.
